Over a month ago, we announced that pre-establishment works would commence for this exciting project that will deliver four levels of brand new teaching and learning spaces for the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Since then, the site has been cordoned off and pedestrians heading to 75 Talavera Road or Macquarie University Hospital have been redirected around the hoarding and fencing.
To make it even safer for pedestrians needing to access these locations, the Property team has installed a new section of footpath at the rear of 75 Talavera Road as there were reports of pedestrians not always using the existing crossings.
Over the next several weeks, work on this exciting project will commence in earnest and observers will notice some machinery arriving to carry out works:
Piling rig – used to dig foundations for the building employing the technique of screw piling, as opposed to drilling. This method creates less noise and vibration, an important consideration given the close proximity of neighbouring buildings and their occupants.
Tower crane – this will change the skyline for several months while it transfers much of the building’s façade and structure materials (oversized glass and wood panels) from trucks and onto the site where it will be assembled and the building will start to take shape.
Also, we’ll see the site establishment phase shift to building preparation works that will include installing cabling, gas and power services into the ground.
