Commencing this week, Macquarie University Property will be giving two campus carparks on Research Park Drive a refresh.
These include:
- Staff Only, East 2
- Reserved, East 3
- Map

This project will take around a month to complete and will be staged to refresh one carpark level at a time starting with the top floor and includes:
- Painting the ceilings
- Re-marking lines
- Installing new, high-efficiency LED lighting
- Landscaping the surrounding gardens
- Pressure washing floors, walls and stairways
- Any minor repairs as needed
Access and usage within the carparks will temporarily change and drivers will be redirected using traffic managers and barriers. Please take care when using these carparks and be aware that parking capacity will be reduced by one level for the duration of the works.
Due to this, it’s a good idea to factor in extra time to find a car space and/or an alternative campus carpark to use.
Other places to park
With dynamic, real-time signage now installed across campus, it is easier to see the availability before entering a carpark. Alternatively, check online before leaving home to see where the available car spaces are at Macquarie University. If you park in a perimeter carpark (Yellow or Blue) there is a free, evening shuttle bus from 4:00pm until 12:30am to get you to your car. See details here.
Thank you for your patience during these necessary works and please accept Macquarie University Property’s apology for any inconvenience.

While there is a need for renovation, it has been organized very badly. In the last 3 mornings I had serious problems parking in the east parking lot. This morning at 7AM the entire parking lot, apart from the entrance, was completely blocked, not just one level as it was previously advertised. There was no free spots. Due to the train station closure there is a much higher need for that parking lot then it was before. It would be great it these renovations would be organized a bit better and proper information could be given to staff regarding when and what part of the parking lot will be blocked.
Hi Reka, thanks for your comments. As the works are now underway with the acknowledgment that the timing is not ideal, please be aware that parking in the East 2 carpark will continue to be limited until the end of December. Please investigate and perhaps use one of several carparks across campus that have greater and more reliable vacant spaces – such as West 4, 5 and 6 or North 3.
Fixing up the car parks is a great idea, but could the announcement be sent out before the work commences next time? That way we know when to allow extra time to find a parking spot. Also, seeing we’re so close to the end of the semester, next time could the work be conducted after the end of the semester (i.e. Dec, Jan and Feb when there are fewer students on campus)? That way there is more availability in alternate car parks for the people who can’t get a parking spot due to the reduced availability.
Good points Belinda. This work could have been done just a few weeks later with much less disruption.
Hi Belinda, thanks for your comments and agree about timing of information. Unfortunately on this occasion it wasn’t possible to give adequate advance notice but that is always the intention. With regard to timing of works ideally your suggestion would be great however all works must fit into a tight university-wide program and the carpark refresh needs to be done right now. Please do check out the 700+ other spaces available to park on campus during this temporary inconvenience however.
Very pleased to hear about the lighting being upgraded. We absolutely need lighting on the rooftop levels of the University Ave carparks as well so I hope this is also on the list. I’ve found it pitch black and scary up there a number of times.
Hi Leanne, we aim to please! The refreshed carpark environment should make your experience better and we will pass on your suggestion about University Avenue carparks too.
