From 1 October 2018, students can choose how long to pay for parking and find out which car parks have availability using a new pay-as-you-go (PAYG) parking platform in conjunction with provider, CellOpark.
When up and running, Macquarie University car parks will use the app-based, smart system to address a lack of visibility of vacant spaces and provide flexible payment options that align with student parking habits.
NOTE: PAYG and VPERMIT* will be introduced for staff in 2019 when annual permits have expired.
Visibility. Even before leaving home, registered users will be able to see online which car parks have vacant spaces or on campus, people can check live-data signage, saving time when planning where to park.
Park less, pay less. PAYG is simple to use, takes minutes to set up an account and provides the option to only pay for parking that is used. Some student permits will still be available as virtual, or VPERMIT* via the new system as well.
Cost for students during transition
Because most of our students don’t park every day or for a full day, it makes sense to only pay for parking that is used – this system charges by the minute.
There will be an evaluation period once the new parking system starts, until May next year. In light of this, from 1 October 2018, students registered with CellOpark will pay a flat rate of $1.00 per hour up to a maximum of $6.00 per day under PAYG across all car parking zones open to students.
More information will follow throughout September and students will be advised when they register for with CellOpark.
For more information, please go the website.
A FAQ page will be compiled so please forward parking questions to parking@mq.edu.au.
*Some students spend more time on campus than most and may seek an alternative to PAYG. A VPERMIT will cost $234.00 (covering the period 1 October 2018 – 30 April 2019) and will be available to purchase via Cellopark in September 2018 – date to be advised.

student who dont have a job, force to pay for study & parking, Australia is a poor country road tolls M7 M2 parking and the 100k for studies, Uni is only for the rich, brains will get you nothing.
As a user of the Sports and Aquatic Centre, this came as a shock – the free parking that was promoted when I joined has gone, replaced by this appallingly intrusive system. Now I need to hand over all my personal and financial details to this unknown organization – just so I can park my car.
I don’t know why they have decided to hike up the prices and especially get rid of the two-hour free parking near the gym. This has made it more difficult to access my classes and access MUSAC services because now I have to spend more energy thinking about where I can and can’t park rather than simply going to class without fuss.
