Awards and recognition


Living Seawalls, a flagship project of the Sydney Institute of Marine Science, with an all-female team of scientists from Macquarie University and UNSW (main picture), has been selected as a finalist in the £50 million Earthshot Prize – the most prestigious environmental prize in history.

15 inaugural Finalists from 14 countries were announced by HRH Prince William on 17 September.

Congratulations to Dr Scott Wilson and colleagues in the AUSMAP team, who have been selected as finalists in the 2021 Australian Museum Eureka Prizes for Innovation in Citizen Science.

Winners will be announced at the 2021 Eureka Prizes event on Thursday 7 October, where Faculty of Science and Engineering Executive Dean Professor Magnus Nydén will also be presenting the Macquarie University Eureka Prize for Outstanding Early Career Researcher. Register >>

Our 2021 Academic Staff Awards finalists have been announced. The winners will be announced at a live-streamed ceremony on 30 November, when the Vice-Chancellor will join fellow University leaders to celebrate Macquarie’s teaching and research excellence.

Macquarie Business School’s Master of Marketing and Master of Applied Finance programs have been ranked number 1 in Australia  in the 2022 QS World University Rankings.

Macquarie is now ranked in the Top 20 institutions worldwide for the Master of Marketing; Top 50 for Master of Management and Master of Applied Finance; and Top 100 for Master of Business Analytics and the Master of Business Administration (MBA).


Macquarie has also been ranked within the world’s top 100 universities in the latest QS Graduate Employability Rankings. Macquarie was ranked #98 overall (up from 121-130 in the previous ranking).  

Professor Antonio Di Ieva and Dr Tom Murray have been included in the 2020-21 edition of Making a Difference, the Australian Research Council’s celebration of research excellence.

Hamid Yahyaei in the Department of Applied Finance has been named among the semi-finalists in the Asia-Pacific 3 Minute Thesis (3MT) competition.
