Domestic violence can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, socioeconomic status, or cultural background. Macquarie University is committed to promoting respectful relationships and gender equality within the workplace and community, and demonstrating a culture of zero tolerance of violence against women.
We want to be a place where people feel comfortable raising their domestic violence concerns in a safe and supportive environment, and confident that they will receive the help they need.
At Macquarie, we have a range of measures to support members of our staff community who are affected by domestic violence, including:
- access to personal leave and flexible working arrangements for domestic violence related reasons
- professional counselling support through the Employee Assistance Program
- assistance with risk assessment and safety planning
Show your support – White Ribbon morning tea
On the eve of the United Nations International Day for the Prevention of Violence Against Women (White Ribbon Day) on 25 November, HR is holding a morning tea event to shine a light on the issue of domestic violence and the part that we can all play in bringing an end to men’s violence against women.
Date: Friday 24 November
Time: 10:15am to 11:15am
Venue: Art Gallery, Building E11A
Everyone is welcome, so please register.
We will be joined at this event by Tatiana Lozano, Manager, Student Diversity and Inclusion, who will speak about the role of the Respect.Now.Always project in preventing and better responding to sexual violence experienced by the MQ community. Tatiana will present on the important role we can all play as bystanders to bring about cultural change at Macquarie and our personal lives to end violence towards women.
Marley Palin, MQ Incubator Support Officer, will also speak at the event about Glue and You, a social enterprise she founded in 2017. Glue and You is an online platform for women who have left situations of domestic violence, providing the necessary support services, so women can start ‘gluing’ themselves back together.
This is a free event and we will be raising money on the day to support Ryde Family Services, specifically supporting women and children who are living in or wanting to leave situations of domestic violence.
