Enrolling

Enrolling in units and and class registrations

Follow these instructions to activate Macquarie systems and enrol successfully.

Find your Student ID

Received a letter of offer from Macquarie? Your 8-digit student ID is at the top of your offer letter. You'll need this to log into eStudent and enrol.

Activate your Student ID

If you are a new student at Macquarie University, you will need to activate your Student ID before you can access Macquarie University systems. Click on the button below to activate your Student ID.

First time log in

Login to your student email via gmail.com. You will receive your email address when completing your First time log in.

If you have issues with your First time login, contact your Admissions Officer. For other IT issues, contact the IT Service Desk.

Glossary

The following words/phrases will be useful to navigate your way through the enrolment process.

Navigating Macquarie  Systems

Attendance mode

Refer to the Course Handbookfor a description of the attendance modes. Each unit will be either in-person or online.

As a Study Abroad or Exchange student, you must maintain a full-time enrolment of 3-4 units per session and at least 75% of your program must be taken on campus..

Course

As a Study Abroad or Exchange student, you will be admitted into one of the following four programs:

  • Exchange Undergraduate Program
  • Exchange Postgraduate Program
  • Study Abroad Undergraduate Program
  • Study Abroad Postgraduate Program

eStudent

Log in to eStudent to view your program, manage your unit enrolment and class registration, and update your local and emergency contact details.

Faculty

The University is divided into four key subject areas called faculties. Every degree falls under one of the four faculties. Study Abroad and Exchange student are not enrolled into a faculty at Macquarie and are able to take units from multiple faculties if eligible.

iLearn

Log in to iLearn to view your course materials and announcements, submit assignments, connect with teaching staff, and engage in class discussion forums.

Session

The academic year is divided into sessions.

Session 1: First half of the year (February to June)

Session 2: Second half of the year (July to December)

Study load

A full-time study load for Study Abroad and Exchange students is 30-40 credit points.

Note: Speak to your Home University to clarify the number of units/credit points required for your program.

Unit Guide

Updated approximately 2 weeks before session commencement.

Weighted Average Mark (WAM)

Weighted Average Mark (WAM) is an average of all the marks achieved in all units of your course and is a mark out of 100.

Understanding enrolment

Closed units

Check the closed units list to see which units are not available to Study Abroad and Exchange students.

Credit point

Each unit is worth a specified number of credit points. Most units are worth 10 credit points.

Open Access units

Check the open access units list to see which units you may enrol in without having received special approval. These units don't have restrictions to enrolment.

Requisites

A condition that must be satisfied to enrol in a unit. You can use previous study or transcripts from your home university to apply for consideration if you wish to take units with requisites.

Special Approval (Waiver)

Units outside Open Access and not listed as Closed may be taken with a Special Approval Waiver Request via Service Connect if requisites are satisfied.

Unit

A unit is a subject studied within a course. The letters indicate the subject area while the first number shows the level of study. 

eg. AHIS1120 = a 1000-level Ancient History unit
