Units and enrolment
Types of units and enrolment information for study abroad and exchange students.
To design your study plan and pre-select your units, familiarise yourself with Macquarie’s Course Handbook, the Open Access Units List, the Closed Units List and the individual Unit Guides. You should also refer to the Study Abroad and Exchange Student Guide for enrolment considerations and timelines specific to your program.
Types of units
As a Study Abroad and Exchange student, there are three unit types you need to be aware of.
Open Access Units: You are permitted to enrol in the units in this list. These units are generally introductory level, on campus and count for academic credit
Closed Units list: You are prohibited from enrolling in any units found on the Closed Units List. These include PACE units, internships, research projects, or restricted professional placements.
Units requiring special approval have requisites or other barriers to enrolment, and access to these units is subject to case-by-case approval. If you would like to be considered for enrolment in units that have requisites, you must apply for and receive special approval before you may enrol. Instructions for submitting Special Approval (Waiver) requests are included in the Study Abroad and Exchange Student Guide.
Enrolment information
Take note of the enrolment dates for your specific program intake because enrolment may not yet be open at your time of offer. Pay special attention to our calendar of dates so that you are aware of important deadlines regarding enrolment, registration, withdrawal, arrival, and departure.
Top tip: Submit your Special Approval (Waiver) requests as soon as possible, because processing times can take up to four weeks.
