The Mark Pezzano Memorial Scholarship in Law

The Mark Pezzano Memorial Scholarship in Law has been created in memory of Mark Pezzano, Macquarie alum and partner of Holding Redlich. Mark passed away in February 2023 from cancer. His legacy to future students at Macquarie University Law is recognized in this scholarship created in his honour.

The scholarship is to support a Bachelor of Law student enrolled full-time or part-time at Macquarie University in 2023 and experiencing financial hardship.

About the scholarship

The Mark Pezzano Memorial Scholarship in Law scholarship will be awarded to a continuing student of Macquarie University Law School. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage and support a student who experiences financial hardship and who best demonstrates a shared passion for the Law like Mark had. A preference will be given to a student who expresses an interest in property law, however this is not a prerequisite. Holding Redlich will invite the recipient to apply to the firm’s graduate program two years prior to the completion of their undergraduate degree. The graduate program will be a paid, part-time position with the firm, with the option to commence full-time employment following completion, should the recipient meet all the necessary requirements of the position. The successful scholarship recipient will be invited to meet a representative from Holding Redlich and receive their scholarship at the 2023 Macquarie Law School Prize night, to be held on the evening of Wednesday, September 13th 2023.

Duration

This scholarship is awarded for the full duration of the course (max. 5 years based on full-time load), subject to meeting ongoing eligibility criteria.

Criteria

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen; the holder of an Australian permanent resident visa or permanent humanitarian visa; or any temporary entry visa holder (student visa).
  • Be enrolled full-time or part-time in the Bachelor of Laws (and all relevant doubles) degree at Macquarie University in 2024.
  • Be a current student with at least 160 credit points remaining to their course.
  • Have demonstrated academic merit.
  • Be able to demonstrate financial hardship.
