About the scholarship
The Birrung (Star) Scholarship is funded by the Wallumattagal Indigenous Scholarships Fund which has been an avenue for our philanthropic community to help Macquarie University advance the successes of our Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students.
Duration
One-off award paid in two instalments over one (1) year.
Criteria
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student
- Be an Australian citizen
- Be a commencing or continuing full-time student studying a undergraduate degree at Macquarie University
- Be able to demonstrate financial hardship
- Have demonstrated record of academic achievement (Minimum ATAR of 55 or Minimum WAM of 60)
- Engage with Walanga Muru, Macquarie’s Indigenous Student Success Centre

Application for this scholarship can be made by completing the online Macquarie University Scholarship Application form. Successful applicant will be selected based on:
- Evaluation of answers to online application questions:
- (1) Describe your aspirations for pursuing this undergraduate degree and explain how you intend to use the knowledge, skills, and opportunities gained to contribute meaningfully to your community.
- (2) How might this scholarship make a difference to your studies and career; with relevance to experiencing financial hardship?
- (3) What do you hope to achieve once you have completed a Macquarie University degree?
- (4) How have you engaged with Walanga Muru during your educational journey?
- Short-listed applicants may be contacted to attend an informal interview with representatives of Macquarie University.
