DAAD Australia-Germany Joint Research Cooperation Scheme


The objectives of the DAAD Australia-Germany Joint Research Cooperation Scheme are to:

  • Foster research collaboration of the highest quality between Australian researchers from participating Universities Australia member universities and German researchers from publicly funded German universities and research institutes;
  • Produce research outcomes and the exchange of skills and knowledge of mutual benefit to Australia and Germany;
  • Support Early Career Researchers.

Please note that the Australian version of this scheme that researchers from MQ will be applying for is called the Australia-Germany Joint Research Cooperation Scheme and the German version of the same scheme that the project partners in Germany will have to apply for is called the PPP Australia Programme.


Macquarie University will provide $75,000 funding in total for three (3) projects of up to AUD$12,500 p.a over two years, starting in 2019 (AUD$25,000 per project). This funding is to support living and travel expenses for Macquarie researchers to spend time at partner institutions in Germany.

Faculty Processes

Research Services are coordinating an internal Expression of Interest process, whereby a panel made up of a member from each of the Faculties will decide on who will submit full proposals and ultimately which projects the University will support and put forward to Universities Australia.

Key Dates

For funding commencing in December 2018:

Universities Australia announce the scheme is open: Monday 2 April 2018
Closing date for EoIs to be sent to Pre Award: Monday 30 April 2018
Successful EoI applicants notified to proceed to full proposal stage: Friday 18 May 2018
German applications due to DAAD. They will then receive an ID number to give to their Australian partners: Thursday 14 June 2018
Full proposals due to Research Services: Friday 15 June 2018
DAAD selection panel meets in Germany, with a UA representative in attendance: October 2018
UA provides letters to the contact officers in each university for the successful applicants. The University will then contact all applicants and give them the results: November 2018
Exchanges occur: 1 January 2019 to 31 December 2021
