Aim
DAAD Australia-Germany Joint Research Cooperation Scheme provides financial support for travel and living expenses to support collaborative research between Australia and Germany.
Researchers must be working on a genuinely collaborative research project with German partners, not furthering their individual research in Germany (or vice versa). The scheme usually involves a two-way exchange of researchers between Australia and Germany.
The Australian and German collaborators must submit one application each by the submission deadline: Australian researchers apply to their respective universities through the Australia-Germany Joint Research Cooperation Scheme, and the German project partners submitting an application to DAAD’s PPP Australia Programme.
Projects must include early career researchers (ECRs) as a significant focus of the scheme is to develop their experience and capacity. Projects that do not involve an ECR will not be considered for funding.
Applications will be assessed and ranked by a Macquarie Assessment Panel prior to submission to Universities Australia. The applications and scores from the internal assessment will be submitted by the Grant Development Team to Universities Australia, who submit the applications to DAAD for the final application assessment.
Applicants will be notified of the outcomes of the selection process in November 2026.
Macquarie University will provide funding up to AUD $25,000 (AUD $12,500 p.a.) for projects over 2 years. This funding is to support living and travel expenses for Macquarie researchers to spend time at partner institutions in Germany. The scheme does not support any other costs.
For funding commencing in 2027
