Pioneers in the fight against financial crime
The Financial Integrity Hub (FIH)'s research equips Australia and the global community with the knowledge, tools and insights to understand, identify and disrupt illicit finance.
We deliver actionable, research-backed solutions for financial integrity and resilience and drive change through our partnership-based approach and viable solutions.
FIH delivers independent, future-focused research that:
- strengthens Australia’s anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism frameworks
- informs compliance with global standards
- encourages adaptive, risk-based regulation
- bridges the gap between innovation and oversight.
About us
Financial innovation is reshaping the global economy, but regulation is falling behind.
There’s increasing demand for insight into how anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorism financing (CTF) regimes affect innovation. While start-ups and financial institutions drive growth, they also face complex compliance challenges. FIH explores how to align technological progress with financial security – for the benefit of all Australians.
How we operate
The Financial Integrity Hub adopts no corporate view and our researchers contribute to transparent, open debate to support effective policy and public trust.
We fund our work through:
- memberships
- research contracts
- tax-deductible donations
- events and partnerships.
Rapid innovation, outdated regulation and rising financial crime have created urgent challenges for Australia’s financial system.
COVID-19 accelerated digital transformation across financial services, increasing both opportunity and risk. Serious and organised crime already costs Australia up to $15 billion each year. Banks, fintechs and start-ups must now strengthen their anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing controls to protect both their customers and the broader community.
The Financial Integrity Hub responds to this need. Backed by the Senate Select Committee’s call for a more innovative regulatory culture, we provide the independent, multi-stakeholder research needed to fill Australia’s policy and compliance gaps.
The Financial Integrity Hub supports global efforts to disrupt illicit finance by producing research that helps block funding streams and reveals hidden patterns in financial behaviour. This work empowers smarter policies and more effective enforcement.
How we do it
The Financial Integrity Hub brings together researchers, industry and government to develop long-term solutions to financial crime. We do this through:
- publications
- a quarterly podcast on financial integrity themes
- seminars and expert panels
- an annual symposium aimed at enhancing financial integrity.
A leader in the field
The establishment of FIH is particularly timely, given the rate of financial innovation globally and the crisis in financial crime. Researchers, financial institutions, corporations, fintech companies, nonâgovernment organisations and members of the community have all called for a better understanding of this situation.
FIH is independent and focuses exclusively on the integrity of financial systems and compliance with anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing domestic and global regime. There is currently no other research centre of this kind in Australia.
At the Financial Integrity Hub, we are committed to upholding the highest standards of corporate governance. Our governance framework ensures transparency, accountability and integrity in all aspects of our operations, supporting sustainable growth and long-term value creation.
