New instrumentation
We are thrilled to announce the arrival of new instrumentation in our facilities. These state-of-the-art systems have the potential to revolutionise our research capabilities, enhancing our ability to drive groundbreaking discoveries.
UltraMicroscope BLAZE, Miltenyi Biotec
This is a light sheet microscope for fast, high-resolution 3D imaging of large and multiple samples. The UltraMicroscope BLAZE is funded by the Australian Cancer Research Foundation Grant, Professor Helen Rizos (Macquarie University).
Contact the Microscopy Unit for more information.
JEOL 1400 TEM
The JEOL 1400 TEM is an excellent system for both biological and material imaging with up to 100Kv accelerating voltage. The instrument can be used for:
- imaging a range of materials including plant cells, viruses, fimbriae and nanoparticles
- structure analysis
- immunoelectron microscopy.
The JEOL 1400 was a donation from the Electron Microscope Unit, UNSW Mark Wainwright Analytical Centre
WiTec: AFM-Confocal Raman-TERS Imaging Microscope System Alpha300R
This instrument is a multimodal fluorescence microscopy platform for correlative imaging of dynamic processes and ultrafine structures in real time.
It is funded by the LIEF grant, with lead CI being Dr Yuling Wang. The instrument will be primary used by the Grant researchers till mid 2026.

7600 ZenoTOF Mass Spectrometers
Two new Sciex 7600 ZenoTOF Mass Spectrometers have been added to the Australian Proteome Analysis Facility (APAF) catalogue. Equipped with either the Waters Acquity M-Class UPLC or the Waters Acquity Premier UPLC, the spectrometers offer increased sensitivity, accuracy and speed over the previous Sciex 6600 instrumentation. These advanced features will enable us to achieve deeper insights into complex biological systems, including:
- glycomics
- metabolomics
- proteomics
- RNA analysis.
These instruments were supported through Bioplatforms Australia (BPA). For access and information, contact APAF.
