Sydney Quantum Academy (SQA) PhD scholarships

The Sydney Quantum Academy (SQA) scholarships recognise and foster outstanding graduate researchers.

About the scholarship

There are four streams of SQA PhD scholarships:

  1. Primary
    The scholarship is available for domestic and international applicants with an outstanding track record of academic achievement and research potential. Successful candidates will undertake a full-time PhD program in quantum technology.
  2. Supplementary
    The scholarship is available for excellent applicants currently undertaking a full-time PhD program in quantum technology as well as for newly commencing candidates.
  3. Supplementary Extension
  4. Experience Program

All scholarship holders are expected to participate in and complete the SQA PhD Experience Program as complementary training as per the SQA PhD Scholarship Conditions of Award.

*The SQA PhD scholarship aims to address gender imbalance among students pursuing a career in quantum technology. Therefore, for reasons of building greater diversity, SQA has decided that scholarship places will be reserved for students who identify as women in this round.

Components

All SQA PhD scholarships include:

  • entry to the SQA PhD Experience Program. Completion of this program is required.
  • access to SQA career development funding (subject to availability for PhD Experience Program scholarship recipients).

Primary

At least $37,684 per annum (pro rata) for a maximum duration of four years (full-time equivalent).

For successful international applicants, student tuition, health cover and visa fees will be waived.

Supplementary

A small stipend top-up worth the difference between the recipient’s primary PhD stipend and the SQA Primary scholarship (pro rata and adjusted annually) for the period of the primary PhD stipend.

Supplementary Extension

A stipend extension will be applied at the end of your primary PhD stipend, taking your total candidature to a maximum of four years.

The funding amount provided will be the SQA rate at that time and will be at least equivalent to your university stipend rate.
