Description

The Sydney Quantum Academy scholarships are available to domestic and international PhD candidates working in the field of quantum science and technology at one of the partner universities of the Sydney Quantum Academy. Macquarie University is one of these partner universities.

The SQA scholarships recognise and foster outstanding postgraduate research degree candidates.

SQA Full PhD Scholarship

The scholarship is available for domestic and international candidates with an outstanding track record of academic achievement and research potential to pursue full-time PhD studies related to the field of quantum science and technology at one of our founding universities.

An additional $5,000 AUD will be granted to successful applicants for career development.

Domestic candidates:

The scholarship is comprised of the Tuition Fee Offset funded by the Research Training Program (RTP) and a Macquarie University Research Excellence Scholarship (MQRES) Stipend.

The value and tenure of the scholarship is:

  • RTP Tuition Fee Offset; and
  • MQRES Stipend (living allowance)

This scholarship provides a stipend currently valued at a maximum of AUD $35,000 per annum (2020 rate, tax exempt).

The scholarship has been approved for a maximum of 4 years.

International candidates:

The scholarship is comprised of Macquarie University Research Excellence Scholarship (MQRES) Tuition Fee Scholarship and Stipend.

The value and tenure of the scholarship is:

  • MQRES Tuition Fee Scholarship; and
  • MQRES Stipend (living allowance)

This scholarship provides a stipend currently valued at a maximum of AUD $35,000 per annum (2020 rate, tax exempt).

The scholarship has been approved for a maximum of 4 years.

SQA Supplementary PhD Scholarship

The scholarship is available for excellent candidates currently undertaking a PhD program (full-time) in the field of quantum science and technology at one of the founding universities. Candidates must be within the first two years of their PhD program and holding a primary PhD stipend as of July 2020. In regards to the Supplementary Scholarship, an applicant’s primary Scholarship must not exceed $33,000 AUD per annum. If there are changes to your RTP you will need to raise this with SQA immediately.

All candidates (domestic and international):

NB. Domestic scholarship holders are expected to commence their PhD program in the second half of 2020. International scholarship holders are expected to commence their PhD program in the first half of 2021 or earlier.

Availability

This scholarship is available to eligible candidates to undertake the 4 year Sydney Quantum Academy PhD program.

To be eligible for a scholarship, applicants are expected to have a record of excellent academic performance and preferably, additional relevant research experience and/or peer-reviewed research activity in line with the University’s scholarship rating guidelines. Refer to the Rating Scholarship Applicants section for more information about these guidelines.

All scholarship holders are encouraged and expected to successfully pass the SQA PhD Experience Program as complementary educational course work to their research training.
