Understanding business expectations and decisions

This PhD scholarship is funded by Macquarie University and is associated with the Australian Research Council grant on Analysing Business Decisions through the Business Outlook Scenarios Survey (BOSS).

This scholarship supports PhD research that examines how Australian businesses form expectations and perceive uncertainty, factors shaping these views, and their effects on key business decisions.

The project will generate empirical and theoretical knowledge on how businesses form expectations and perceptions of uncertainty, and how these views in turn shape their key decisions.

Potential PhD projects include, but are not limited to, the following topics:

  • How do businesses update expectations according to new information?
  • How do businesses’  inflation and cost expectations influence their pricing decisions?
  • The nexus between expectations, perceptions of uncertainty and key business decisions.

The PhD candidate with be jointly supervised by:

  • Professor Jeffrey Sheen
  • Dr Natalia Ponomareva
  • Associate Professor Ben Wang.

Availability

This scholarship is available to eligible candidates to undertake either a direct entry:

  • three-year PhD program
  • four-year MRes + PhD program.

Components

The scholarship comprises:

  • a tuition fee offset
  • a living allowance stipend.

The value of the stipend scholarship is $39,700 per annum (full time, indexed), for up to four years.
