The Rozetta Institute Scholarship Award (RISA) provides a $15,000 top-up award together with mentoring and opportunities to engage with industry, policymakers and researchers.
Supporting outstanding PhD and Masters by Research (MRes) students undertaking research aligned with the Rozetta Institute’s strategic priorities.

About the scholarship
The RISA supports research that addresses strategic challenges facing Australian industry by connecting high-quality academic research with practical industry impact. The scholarship aims to support outstanding research students whose work has the potential to contribute to Australia’s future:
- productivity
- competitiveness
- economic capability.
For the Winter 2026 round, applicants may submit research proposals aligned with one of two current Expression of Interest (EOI) focus:
Research topics include, but are not limited to:
- electricity market design and pricing
- forward electricity markets
- industrial demand and demand response
- energy market governance and regulatory innovation.
Research topics include, but are not limited to:
- measuring research impact
- spillover effects of knowledge-intensive industries
- redirecting Australia’s industrial and research capabilities
- productivity and sovereign capability.
Successful recipients will also have access to Rozetta’s network of industry leaders, researchers and policymakers, together with mentoring and opportunities to maximise the real-world impact of their research.
Availability
Open to PhD or Masters by Research (MRes) students.
Applicants must:
- be enrolled in a PhD or Masters by Research program at an Australian university
- demonstrate academic excellence and research potential in a field aligned to Rozetta’s strategic priorities
- have their proposal endorsed by their academic supervisor.
RISA operates in rounds, with a new set of expressions of interest released periodically. Each round focuses on a specific set of research topics aligned with Rozetta’s current priorities. The Winter 2026 round is now open until Tuesday July 21, 2026.
Components
The Rozetta Institute Scholarship Awards is part of our commitment to developing the next generation of researchers that will play a critical role in addressing the challenges that matter most to Australian industry.
The scholarship comprises:
- a top-up stipend of $15,000 paid over 12 months to support your research
- access to industry mentors and Rozetta’s networks of researchers, policymakers and industry leaders
- opportunities to work with Rozetta to connect your research to real initiatives that change Australian industry.
Recipients will be asked to produce for Rozetta an impact assessment and implementation plan that supports their research. The scope and deliverables will be mutually agreed with Rozetta, the student and the host institution.
How to apply
- Provide a maximum two-page cover letter that outlines your academic and career experience
- Prepare your proposal: a maximum two-page outline covering your research, alignment with the topics outlined in the current round of RISA Expressions of Interest, and how it might contribute to improving Australia’s future productivity and competitiveness
- Get supervisor endorsement. Your proposal must be endorsed by your academic supervisor before submission.
- Submit your expression of interest by the closing date by emailing scholarships@rozettainstitute.com.
Applications will be assessed on merit by a selection committee established by the Rozetta Institute.
Selection criteria include:
- strategic alignment with the focus identified in the EOI
- potential for material, real-world impact that can be implemented at scale
- demonstrated academic excellence and potential for innovative research
- supervisor endorsement.
