This scholarship represents the expansion of the Indigenous Language Hub at Macquarie University. Established within the Centre of Critical Indigenous Studies in 2024, the Indigenous Language Hub created a living space for Dharug language speakers, educators and community members to come together and begin the vital work of revitalisation. The Hub is now a vibrant site of learning, cultural safety and reconciliation, where Dharug people and wider communities engage with Aboriginal languages as living knowledges.
The Patyegarang research excellence scholarship will expand the research capacity of the Indigenous Language Hub, through a research project designed to develop new resources designed to benefit Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities engaged in language revitalisation. While there will be a focus on language revitalisation on Dharug Country, the project may address the revitalisation of any Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Language belonging to the 90,000 Indigenous people living on Dharug Country.
Applications may be considered from suitably qualified Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander scholars with backgrounds in a variety of (inter)disciplinary perspectives, including:
- critical Indigenous studies
- social sciences
- literature

- media
- creative arts.
The Indigenous Language Hub and the Patyegarang research scholarship are generously supported by the Cybec Foundation.
