Euphoria scholarships

We are looking for two students, a qualitative or mixed methods student and a quantitative/stats or mixed methods student, each with a completed masters thesis.

Two three-year PhD scholarships working with an interdisciplinary education-psychology-sociology team on a project comparing LGBTIQ and cishet identity related euphoria and lifespan effects.

We are an interdisciplinary education, psychology and sociology team who have made significant real-world policy and practice impacts across services, offering two three-year PhD scholarships.

We will fund and train two students to each engage full time in studies within our wider research project comparing LGBTIQ and cisgender heterosexual moments of identity-related happiness (euphorias) and how these impact lifespan development.

We want two top students, both with:

  • past masters thesis qualifications
  • ideally, papers in psychology, education or developmental psychology, sociology, gender or sexuality studies or health.

This PhD student will emphasise thoughtful qualitative inquiry, eg interviews and/or focus groups, however mixed work is possible.

Your study or studies could focus on questions such as:

  • what stimulates happiness/euphorias for different social groups by age or gender and sexuality
  • what are the influences of happiness and unhappiness (euphorias and dysphorias) on development of different social groups
  • what are the meaning of euphorias for different services (psychology, health, education, social services).

This PhD student will emphasise rigorous quantitative work, eg surveys and statistical analyses or mixed methods, however mixed work is possible.

Your study or studies could focus on questions such as:

  • relationships between what stimulates happiness/euphorias and different social groups by age or gender and sexuality and different outcomes
  • relationships between happiness and unhappiness (euphorias and dysphorias) on development of different social groups
  • relationships of dysphorias and euphorias and service use for different services (psychology, health, education, social services).

Availability

The scholarship is available to candidates eligible to undertake a direct-entry three-year PhD program.

Components

The scholarship comprises:

  • a tuition fee offset
  • a living allowance stipend.

The value of each stipend scholarship is $39,700 per annum (full-time, indexed) for three years.
