Choose your research pathway
- Duration: One year full time equivalent
- Credit points: 80
In the Graduate Diploma of Research, you’ll have opportunities to explore real-world research in action. This stackable, 12-month course is designed to extend your research skills and apply them in your current workplace or prepare for further study, including a Master of Research or PhD.
The diploma includes the first 40 credit points of the Graduate Certificate plus an additional 40 credit points.
Graduate Diploma of Research scholarship
The Graduate Diploma of Research scholarship, valued at $5000 per session, is awarded to high-performing domestic and international students who meet the eligibility criteria below.
Commencing session
The eligible student:
- enters the program with a Macquarie University WAM ≥ 80 (or equivalent GPA of ≥ 6/7)
- is enrolled full-time as at the census date in their commencing session.
Subsequent session
The eligible student:
- receives a minimum overall WAM ≥ 80 in their commencing session
- is enrolled full-time at the census date in their subsequent session.
Note: Eligibility for the scholarship in each session is confirmed 1–2 weeks after the session census date. Successful students are notified by the Graduate Research Academy via email.
Faculties
We offer the Graduate Certificate of Research in our four faculties. This allows you to build strong research foundations while deepening your discipline expertise. Choose the course that’s right for you.
- Duration: Six months full time equivalent
- Credit points: 40
The Graduate Certificate of Research is a stackable six month course designed to prepare you for a future in research. This course will develop your research skills for expeditious application in the workplace, or acts as a foundation for further studies in a graduate diploma or master degree.

Graduate Diploma progressing to MRes scholarship
Eligible domestic and international students progressing from the Graduate Diploma of Research to the Master of Research may be considered for a tuition fee offset and stipend scholarship valued at $40,900 per annum in 2027, indexed annually.
Eligibility
Scholarships are:
- awarded on academic merit
- competitively ranked based on the overall WAM achieved in Graduate Diploma of Research units
- offered to the highest-ranked students.
Important information
- exempt units are not included in the WAM calculation.
- the number of scholarships awarded each year depends on the scholarship budget approved by the University.
