Two former international students who studied at Macquarie University's Department of Policing, Intelligence and Counter Terrorism (PICT) have each received prestigious Australian Alumni Excellence Awards, to be presented by the Australian High Commissioners in their respective embassies.
Dr. Moinul Khan from Bangladesh, and Brigadier Arshad Khan from Pakistan, were both awarded Australian Alumni Awards for Business Leadership. Only one award is granted in each country per year.
Dr. Moinul Khan is the Director General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation for the government of Bangladesh. He completed his PhD research on Counter Terrorism in South and Southeast Asia at Macquarie's PICT, having been awarded an Australian Postgraduate Award Scholarship from the Australian Department of Education. He also lectured at Macquarie for three years in the area of counter terrorism.
Brigadier Arshad Khan is a Brigade Commander in Pakistan, with more than two years practical experience of implementing counter terrorism methods against extremist events. He undertook his Postgraduate Diploma in Policing, Intelligence and Counter Terrorism with Distinction at Macquarie University, followed by his Masters in the same area, for which he received the Vice Chancellors Commendation for Academic Excellence.
The Australian Alumni Excellence Awards recognises and honours alumni who have attained exemplary achievements in their field of specialisation at a national, regional or international level, as well as those who have contributed significantly to the betterment of Australian education and their institution or alumni community.

The Australian Alumni Award for Business Leadership recognises business leadership, commitment to responsible business practices to bring about positive change in the workplace, and the providing of inspiration to others. This award recognises young, emerging and current leaders.
