James Watts Steam Boat
Paddle steamship. 449 registered tons; [two x 50 horse power engines by Boulton Watt and Co.]; built at Greenock by Wood and Co., builders of the PS Comet (1).
Entered service between London and Leith in 1821, first steamer on the route.
Macquarie travelled to London on board the James Watts in April 1824.

John Bull Transport
Built in Calcutta; Dimensions: 464 tons; crew: 40 men.
Arrived in Sydney from Calcutta via Hobart Town on 10 January under the command of Benjamin Orman, with a cargo of tea, sugar, spirits, and merchandise. Departed on 15 February for Madras and Calcutta with Macquarie's gift of two emus to the Marquess of Hastings: Francis Rawdon-Hastings, Governor-General of India (1813-21).

HMS Jupiter [Fourth Rate, 50 Gun] - Royal Navy
Built by Randall at Rotherhithe, London; launched 13 May 1778. Two decks. Dimensions: length, 146 ft.; breadth 40 ft. [approx]; 1061 tons. Guns: 28 x 32 Pounders; 28 x 18 Pounders; 18 x 9 Pounders. Crew: 73/94. Served at the capture of the Dutch squadron at the Cape of Good Hope in August 1796; fought in an action with the French 36-gun la Prenuese in October 1799; flagship of Vice-Admiral Sir Roger Curtis in 1801, in the East Indies; returned to Britain in 1803.
Fitted as a hospital ship 1805-1806. Re-established as a 50-gun ship in January 1807 and sailed for the East Indies on 18 April 1807. Wrecked on a shoal near the Bayonne Islands, two small rocky islands situated in the Gulf of Bayonne, near Vigo, [NW Spain] on 10 December 1808.
Macquarie refers to HMS Jupiter at Table Bay, Cape Town, on 5 March 1803 as part of the British squadron departing that day for Britain, with the former garrison of soldiers of the 81st. and 91st Regiments of Foot.
