Elizabeth Macquarie: Earrings
Acquisition in 1968

From the Macquarie Family Papers (1817-1835)
NLA Manuscript Collection (MS2262/7)

Edward Manley Hopkins (1892-1982), grandson of Mary Gregorson (née Maclaine) [niece of Elizabeth Macquarie], [on left] presents the earrings to Sir Reginald Sholl, Australian Consul-General, 1968. [on right]

The earrings have been exhibited in: "Australian Icons", Historic Houses Trust of N.S.W., 1992; "World Upside Down", National Library of Australia, Canberra 2000; "Gold and Civilisation", National Museum of Australia, March - June 2001; "National Treasures from Australia's Great Libraries", a national touring exhibition: December 2005 - August 2007 (organised by the National Library of Australia).
