Monday 1st. Octr. !
Thos. Legge & the Govt. Bricklayers commenced work on the New Rooms back of the Govt. House! —

Mondy. 15th. Octr.
The first Sydney Races commenced and concluded without any inconvenience on Frdy. 19th. Octr.

Sunday 21st. Octr.
The Hibernia Brig from Bengal, the Ship Frederick from England, and the American Ship Hunter from America, Rio [de] Janeiro & the Cape of Good Hope anchored this afternoon in the Harbour.

The Frederick sailed from England on the 27th. of May – and brings very few Letters. — I recd. none from my Broyr. or any other particular Friends!

Monday 22d. Octr. ! —
This afternoon between 1 & 2 OClock I recd. the melancholy accounts of the Death of poor Mr. Andw. Thompson Chief Magistrate at the Hawkesbury, where he died at 7, OClock this morning; an excelent worthy man, and much & justly regretted by everyone. He has left Capt. Antill his Executor. —

Thursdy. 25th. Octr. !
Mr. Thompson's remains were interred in the new Burying Ground at Hawkesbury at 12,O'Clock this day, his Funeral being most numerously & respectably attended. —

Friday 26th. Octr. —
Mr. Fras. Williams Mercht. Sydney returned this day from Hawkesbury from attending the late Mr. Thompson's Funeral and gave me the first intelligence of that worthy good and most useful man having kindly and generously bequested to me one fourth of his whole Property; leaving another fourth to Mr. Simeon Lord Mercht. in Sydney, and the remaining Half equally divided between his only surviving Brother and four Nephews pr. another Brother deceased. The amount of Mr. Thompson's Fortune is very uncertain; but it is supposed that after all his Debts are paid, and his affairs are properly arranged and adjusted that it may amount to about Twenty or Twenty five Thousand Pounds! —This indeed of leaving a part of his Fortune to me is a most extraordinary instance of Friendship & Gratitude!

Tuesday 30th. Octr. ! —
The Atalanta Brig (a South–Sea–Whaler) Commanded by Capt. Morris, Sailed this day for England, having Ensign Huey of the 73d. Regt. on board as a Passenger.

By Ensign Huey I sent dispatches for the Secry. Of State for the Colonies, the Comr. in Chief of the Forces, & the Adjt. General – besides some few Private Letters. — Mrs. M. sent Two Cape Barren Geese (in a large Coop) home to Col: Foveaux in the Atalanta in charge of the Captain. —
