Septr. 1.
Thursday! — I this day dined with my old Bombay Friend Mr. Loughnan - at his House in Robt. St. Adelphi. —

Septr. 2.
Friday! — I attended Lord Harrington at the Inspection of the 3 Regiments of East India Volunteers at 8,O'Clock this morning in Hyde Park. —

Septr. 4.
Sunday! — I had the honor of dining this day with the Earl & Countess of Breadalbane at their elegant House in Park Lane; having been some days before introduced to His Lordship by his Mother Mrs. Campbell of Corwhin, and whom I accompanied on this day to dinner in her Carriage, and was introduced by her to the Countess.

Septr. 5.
Monday! — I spoke this day to Colonel Wynyard the Depy. Adjt. Genl. of the Forces, to request in Mrs. Genl. Clephane's Name that he would be so good as to submit the names of Hector Maclaine, (Scallastle's youngest son) and Lachn. Maclean (Laggans youngest son) for Commissions to His Royal Highness the Comr. in Chief, which he has accordingly promised to do.

Septr. 8.
Thursday. — I attended Lord Harrington at Six OClock this morning into the City to Inspect three of the City Volunteer Corps just formed under the direction of the present Lord Mayor – Mr. Price, who attended the Inspection; and after it was over we all accompanied the Lord Mayor to Breakfast with him at the Mansion House, where he introduced us to the Lady Mayoress and her fine Family of Elegant accomplished Daughters. —

I this day sent Presents to Her Majesty - our excellent good Queen, Her Royal Highness The Duchess of York, and the Countess of Harrington, each, of a most beautiful Ivory and Sandal-Wood Inlaid-Work-Box, the manufacture of Bombay; — I addressed Notes to the Queen, the Duchess of York, and Lady Harrington, along with the Boxes; the Queen's having been conveyed to her by Lady Harrington, and the Duchess of York's left at her own Town House in Portman Square. —

I also Presented Lady Anna Maria Stanhope, with a very handsome set of India Cornelians for the Neck &c. , and to Lord Harrington himself I made a Present of a very handsome Ground Rattan Cane mounted in India; – with which they were all highly pleased.

Septr. 9.
Friday! — I accompanied my Sister in law Mrs. Scott this day in a Post Chaise to visit Colonel Mrs. & Miss Cook at Caroline Mount, Chinkford, in Essex – 12 miles from Town. — We staid at Colonel Cook's for a Couple of Hours, and went afterwards to dine with Mr. & Mrs. Urmston at their beautiful Villa at Chigwell also in Essex & about 12 miles from Town. — We spent a very pleasant day and did not return home till late at Night. —

Septr. 10.
Saturday! — I went this Evening to Drury Lane Theatre to see the celebrated actor and actress Mr. Kemble and Mrs. Siddons play in the Popular Tragedy of Pozarro! [sic] —

Septr. 11.
Sunday! I dined today with Mr. Angus Macdonald, the Army Agent, at his House at the Grange in Brompton, and was introduced to his Wife who is a very pleasant Woman. —

Septr. 12.
Monday! — Lord Harrington Inspected the St. George's Regt. of Volr. Infy. Commanded by Colonel The Earl of Chesterfield at 9,O'clock this morning in Hyde Park. —

I dined today with Genl. Farrington at Blackheath along with Col: & Mrs. Cliffe; it being the anniversary of their Son Loftus's Birth-day; but I returned to Town at Night. —

Septr. 13.
Tuesday. — I accompanied Mrs. Scott to dine today with Colonel & Mrs. Mathews in Chelsea College, of which the Colonel is Major - and Commandant. —

Septr. 14.
Wednesday. — The Earl of Harrington went into the City very early this morning, and Inspected several of the City Volunteer Corps on their own respective Parades in Presence of the Lord Mayor; with whom we all Breakfasted at the Mansion House.

There was a Levee held by His Majesty today at St. James, which I attended. — The Levee was very full. —

Septr. 15.
Thursday. — I accompanied The Earl of Harrington to Inspect the St. James's Regt. of Volunteers Commanded by Lord Amherst in Hyde Park at 10,O'Clock; and in the Evening His lordship went into the City to Inspect the 1st. Regt. of Loyal London Volunteers Commanded by Lt. Col: Birch. — The Lord Mayor was present at the Review, and Lord Harrington and Staff afterwards dined with him at the Old Bailey, where we were sumptuously entertained. —

Septr. 16.
Friday! — His Majesty this forenoon Reviewed on Wimbledon common the two Regiments of Life Guards and the Royal Regt. of Horse Guards (or Blues) which were formed into a Brigade under Lord Cathcart. — The Review lasted from 10 till 2,O'Clock and was attend[ed] by the whole of the Royal Family and an immense concourse of People of all descriptions from London.

I attended the Earl of Harrington as one of his Suite at the Review; and dined afterwards with Lord Cathcart and the officers of the Brigade at the Thatched House Tavern. —

Septr. 17.
Saturday. — I dined today with Mrs. Campbell of Corwhin at her House in Wigmore Street. —

Septr. 21.
Wednesday! Lord Harrington Inspected, at 7,O'Clock this morning in the City, the Bank Regt. of Volr. Infy., commanded by Lieut. Colonel Manning M.P. and one of the Bank Directors. — We went after the Review to Breakfast at the Bank, where we were elegantly entertained by the Governor and Directors of the Bank. — Several Ladies Breakfasted with us there & that were at the Review.

Lord Harrington went afterwards to Hyde Park, and at 11,O'Clock, the Westminster Regt. of Volr, Cavalry, Commanded by Lt. Col: Elliott; with whom & his Officers we afterwards dined at the Thatched House. —

Septr. 22.
Thursday! — The East India Company's Volunteer Brigade was Inspected in Hyde Park by the Earl of Harrington at 9,O'Clock this morning. — After this Inspection was over His Lordship proceeded to the City, and Reviewed the Artillery Company commanded by Colonel (Alderman) Lemesurier on their fine Parade in the Artillery Ground; the Lord Mayor and a great number of the Ladies and Gentlemen of the City being present. — Colonel Lemesurier gave a most Elegant and Cold collation to Lord Harrington and suite – and to a large Party of Ladies & Gentlemen as soon as the Review was over; after which we returned Home. —

Septr. 23.
Friday! — The 12 City Corps of Loyal London Volunteers were Reviewed this morning at 7,O'Clock in the East India Company's Field, by His Royal Highness The Duke of York, attended by his Brother The Duke of Cambridge, The Earl of Harrington, and the Lord Mayor with their respective Suites. —

The 12 Corps mustered about 7000 men under arms, drawn up in four Lines, and made a very grand and beautiful appearance. —

After the Review The two Royal Dukes, the Earl of Harrington, and the other General Officers and principal Staff all Breakfasted with the Lord Mayor and his Family at the Mansion House. —

The two Royal Dukes and the Same Party, together with all the Field Officers of the 12 City Regiments Reviewed this morning, dined today also with the Lord Mayor at the Mansion House, where he gave us a most splendid Entertainment, at which the Lady Mayoress and her elegant Daughters were present. —

Septr. 28.
Wedy! — The King held a Levee at St. James's which I attended. — The Field Officers of all the City Volunteer Corps attended the Levee, and were severally presented to the King by the Lord Mayor!

I this day removed my two Horses from Mr. Moore's Stables in King Street to Mr. Peartree's Livery Stables in Piccadilly, where I am to pay 3/ Pr. Night for each Horse, including Fees to Hostlers! [sic] —

Septr. 29.
Thursday! — The Bloomsbury and Inns of Coast Regt. of Volr. Infantry Commanded by Lieut. Colonel Cox, was this day Inspected in Hyde Park by Lord Harrington. —
