Augt. 3.
Wednesday! — The King held a Levee this day at St. James's, which I attended, and had the honor of being Presented by the Earl of Harrington to the King and kissing His Majesty's Hand on my appointment to be Asst. Adjt. General of the London District.

I this day Purchased another Black Charger at Mr. Tattersall's Sale, which cost me Sixty five Guineas, including Presents to the Grooms. — This is also a very fine Horse, perfectly sound and good tempered. — I removed my two Horses this day to Moore's Livery Stables in King Street St. James's, where I pay 3/ Pr. night for Each Horse.

Augt. 4.
Thursday! — The Queen held a Drawing Room today at St. James's which I attended, and had the honor of being Presented to the Queen by the Lord in Waiting, and of kissing Her Majesty's hand on my being appointed Asst. Adjt. General of the London District. —

Augt. 5.
Friday! — I had the honor of dining today at Lord Harrington's with a large Party of Ladies & Gentlemen.

Augt. 7.
Sunday! — I went to dine today with General Farrington of the Royal Artillery at Blackheath, at the invitation of my friend his son-in-law Colonel Cliffe, and spent a very pleasant day there. — I slept at the Green-Man-Inn at Blackheath, and returned to Town the day following along with Colonel & Mrs. Cliffe. —

Augt. 10
Wednesday! — I dined today with Colonel Allan Cameron of the 79th. Regt. at his House in Quebec Street.

Augt. 11.
Thursday. — I accompanied my Sister in law Mrs. Scott, Miss Carnegie, and Mrs. Doig in the Carriage of the latter, to dine with Mr. & Mrs. Wood at Barnes; where we spent a very pleasant day, and returned to Town in the Evening. —

Augt. 13.
Saturday! — I attended Lord Harrington to the Review of the 2d. Regt. of Royal Tower Hamlets Militia Commanded by Colonel Mathew Smith, at their Exercising Ground at Bethnal Green. — His Lordship afterwards went to Review the 7th Royal Garrison Battn. commanded by Lieut. Colonel, on their Parade in the Tower.

After the Review of this last Corps we all partook of an elegant Cold Collation at the House of Colonel Smith the Major of the Tower. —

Lord Harrington and all his Staff sent home their Horses, and we returned by water to Westminster. I dined with Lord Harrington. —

Augt. 14.
Sunday! — I dined today with Colonel O'Loghlin of the 1st. Regt. of Life Guards at his quarters at the Barracks in Hyde-Park, where he entertained Lord Harrington and several other Friends, and gave us a very elegant Dinner, with true hospitality! —

Augt. 15.
Monday! — I attended Lord Harrington to the Review of the West London Regt. of Militia commanded by Colonel Newnham, on their Exercising Ground in the East India Company's field at the Back of the City, near the City Road. — Colonel Newnham Entertained the Earl of Harrington and his Staff – and also the officers of his own Corps, in a most Sumptous manner at the London, where he gave us an elegant Dinner in the Evening. — I went with Lord Harrington in his own Carriage to Dinner to Dinner, but we all walked home at Night. —

Augt. 17.
Wedy — I attended the Levee - and dined today at Lord Harrington's.

Augt. 18.
Thursday. — I dined today with Genl. Burrard of the Guards at his own House in Hertford Street May-Fair. —

Augt. 19.
Friday! — I accompanied the Earl of Harrington this morning to the Review of the Royal Regt. of Horse-Guards, (or Oxford Blues) on their Exercising Ground at Croydon – Ten miles from London. — After the Review we Breakfasted with Lieut. Colonel Dorrien and the officers of the Regt. at their Mess-Room. I went and returned with Lord Harrington in his own Postchaise, and dined with him afterwards the same Day.

Augt. 20.
Saturday. — I dined with my sister in law Mrs. Scott and a small Party of Friends. —

Augt. 22.
Monday. — I dined with Mr. Jno. Forbes. —

Augt. 24.
Wednesday! — I accompanied The Earl of Harrington to the Review of the London & Westminster Regt. of Light Horse Volunteers, commanded by Colonel Herris, which His Lordship Inspected this day on Wimbledon common, in the presence of a vast concourse of Spectators of all descriptions who came out to see the Review of this favorite Corps. —

After the Review Lord Harrington returned to Town, and I had the honor of dining with en famille. —

I had the honor of accompanying Lady Harrington & Family to the Play this Evening at Covent Garden Theatre, where Her Ladyship had the use of the Prince's Box for Herself & Party.

Augt. 25.
Thursday! — The Earl of Harrington, the other Generals, and all the Staff Officers of the London District, having agreed to establish a regular monthly Staff Club, held their first meeting this day at the Thatch'd House Tavern in St. James's Street, where we had a most elegant Dinner. — Our Club came to £1.12.6 each. —

Augt. 26.
Friday! — I dined at Colonel Cliffe's.

Augt. 27.
Saturday! — I accompanied my Sister in law Mrs. Scott to Hampstead, and brought Home Maria and Harriet Morley with us from Mrs. Pope's School during the Holidays.

I this day received the last of my Presents and Baggage from the India House, the clearing out of which, including the Duties on two Pipes of Madeira and 3 Casks of Constantia, and all other incidental Expences, the sum of Two Hundred & Fifteen Pounds Sterling!

I dined today with Mrs. Scott. —

Augt. 31.
Wednesday. — The King held a Levee this day at St. James's, which I attended and had the honor of being spoken to by His Majesty. —
