Sept. 2.
Monday! — We arrived at Berhampore, and Genl. Rawstorne came on board the moment we anchored – which was at 9 OClock this morning. — The General having a large Party of Ladies & Gentlemen Breakfasting with him on board his most elegant Budgerow on the river insisted on our accompanying him to his Water– Party, which we accordingly did. — We had an elegant Breakfast – and were entertained with the General's fine Band of Music. — After Breakfast, Capt. & Mrs. Davidson and myself accompanied the General on shore to his House, where we were all elegantly accommodated with suitable apartments to dress and sleep in – and most magnificently entertained at Dinner &c. —

Sept.3.
Tuesday! — The General drove out Mrs. Davidson in his Phaeton – and gave Capt. D. and myself Horses to take a long Ride into the Country this morning before Breakfast; we rode out about Six miles through a very fine Country in this Neighbourhood; – the Roads were excellent, and we were highly gratified with our Ride; returning Home to Breakfast at 10,O'Clock. — We had a large Party at Dinner at the General's; and spent a most pleasant jovial sociable Day; his two Daughters entertaining us with music in the Evening. —

Sept. 4.
Wednesday! — After Breakfast I took my leave of my friends Capt. & Mrs. Davidson, and my kind hospitable friend & Host Genl. Rawstorne (– who wished me very much to remain with him – ) and set out in a hired Budgerow this morning at Ten O'Clock for Calcutta – where I arrived...

Sept. 7.
on Saturday at 1. P.M.; having called and Breakfasted in the morning at Barrackpore with Capt. Dick. —

I disembarked immediately and took up my old Quarters in Fort William with my friend Capt. Cameron of the 76th. Regt. —

Sept. 8.
Sunday! — I went immediately after Breakfast to pay my respects to Sir Alured Clarke and his Family all of whom were very glad to see me again. — I also called at Sir Jno. Anstruther's, Mr. Cheap's – and several other friends. — I dined at Sir Alured Clarke's today. —

Sept. 9.
Monday! — I dined at Mr. Cheap's, where there were a great deal of genteel Company.

Sept. 10.
Tuesday! — I dined with Capt. Cameron at the 76th. Mess today. —

Sept. 11.
Wednesday! — I dined at Sir Jno. Anstruther's.

Sept. 12.
Thursday! — I dined at Sir Alured Clarke's.

Sept. 13.
Friday! — I dined at Mr. Traille's.

Sept. 14.
Saturday! — I went up by Invitation this day in my Palanquin to Sir Alured Clarke's Garden House at Barrackpore on the Banks of the Ganges, where he and his Suite generally go every Friday and remain there until the Monday following. —

I staid [sic] there all Saturday and Sunday, and rode out a great way into the Country with Sir Alured on Sunday morning along the Banks of the Ganges – and had a most beautiful ride. — I returned to Town on

Sept. 16.
Monday morning after spending two very pleasant days with Sir Alured at the most delightful Country residence of his. —

I dined today at Mr. Benersett's, [?] with a very pleasant Party. —

Sept. 17.
Tuesday! — I dined today at Mr. Cheap's.

Sept. 18.
Wednesday! — I dined along with Col: Cliffe at Mr. Engel's.

Sept. 19.
Thursday! — I dined at Sir Jno. Anstruther's.

Sept. 20.
Friday! — Dined at Sir Alured Clarke's.

Sept. 21.
Saturday! — I dined at Mr. Traille's. —

Sept. 22.
Sunday! — I dined at Sir Alured Clarke's.

Sept. 23.
Monday! — I dined at the 76th. Mess. —

Sept. 24.
Tuesday! — I dined at Mr. Davidson's.

Sept. 25.
Wednesday! — The Earl of Mornington Govr. Genl. of India arrived and landed this forenoon at Calcutta from Madras. He dined at Sir Alured Clarke's – and I had the honor to make one of the Party. —

Sept. 26.
Thursday! — I dined at Mr. Cheap's. —

Sept. 27.
Friday! — I attended Lord Mornington's Levee today; and I had the honor of dining with him on the same day at Sir Jno. Anstruther's. His Lordship spoke to me for some time at the Levee, and was very gracious indeed. —

Sept. 28.
Saturday! — I called this morning on The Earl of Mornington to take leave – and received his Commands for Madras and Bombay; I was received very politely – and His Lordship was pleased to entrust me with a Confidential message to General Stuart. — I had the honor of being invited to dine with His Lordship on a distant day – but excused myself on account of its being the day now fixed for our departure by Capt. Hardyman; who having kindly offered me a Passage in La Forte Frigate round to Madras, I have very gladly accepted it, that Ship being now repaired and ready to proceed to Sea. —

I dined today with Sir Alured Clarke.

Sept. 29.
Sunday! — I dined at the 76th. Mess. —

Sept. 30.
Monday! — I dined at Mr. Colville's. —

I called this forenoon on most of my friends at Calcutta, and took leave of them previous to my departure. —
