Reducing our reliance on fossil fuels

We are a multidisciplinary team focused on new technologies for renewable energy generation and management.

Our key strengths include:

  • photovoltaics
  • solar fuels
  • hydrogen
  • smart grids

We manage and run the Macquarie University Sustainable Energy Research Centre (MQ-SERC),  which was established to drive the global clean energy transition by combining the expertise of researchers, industry, and government to develop innovative solutions for the production and utilisation of renewable and sustainable energy sources and technologies.

We also host the MQ-Jilin University (JLU) Joint Research Centre for Green Catalysis focusing on the development of sustainable fuel and chemical production technologies with high performance and low energy threshold.

Other areas of interest include:

  • nanomaterials for advanced energy production technologies
  • low-cost and highly efficient optoelectronics, eg LEDs and photodetectors
  • carbon utilization
  • in situ spectroscopic techniques
  • advanced optical characterisation and modelling
