AI for healthcare has benefits too big to ignore

The Australian Alliance for Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare (AAAiH) has around 150 national and international partners and stakeholders in academia, government, consumer, clinical, industry organisations and peak bodies.

Founded by Professor Enrico Coiera and based at the Australian Institute of Health Innovation, the Alliance has been working with partners and stakeholders to support and accelerate the adoption of AI-enabled healthcare in Australia since 2018.AAAiH written

To effectively translate AI advances into real-world health services is a significant challenge, which creates a critical research frontier for implementation science in healthcare AI.

About the Alliance

AI plays a crucial role in improving healthcare, impacting everything from diagnostic interpretation of medical imaging to personalised therapeutics. Creating a smart, adaptive sector that can apply major AI advances is key to sustainable quality healthcare in Australia.

To effectively translate AI advances into real-world health services is a significant challenge. The Alliance recognises that this creates a critical research frontier for implementation science in healthcare AI.

AI presents significant benefits but is a major disrupter, presenting opportunities and threats across all industries. The Alliance has outlined the opportunities for Australian governments to help industry exploit AI, and support healthcare services to be effective adopters of AI, with their Roadmaps published 2021 and 2023. The Roadmaps recognise that adoption of AI is complex and requires a multisectoral policy approach.
