Enrico Coiera awarded AIDH Life Membership

Professor Enrico Coiera has received AIDH Life Membership, recognising his outstanding contribution to digital health and health informatics.

Professor Enrico Coiera, Director of the Centre for Health Informatics at the Australian Institute of Health Innovation (AIHI), has been awarded Life Membership of the Australasian Institute of Digital Health (AIDH), the organisation’s highest honorary recognition.

The AIDH Life Membership Award recognises individuals who have demonstrated exceptional, long-term and distinguished service to AIDH, including:

  • legacy contributions to the Health Informatics Society of Australia (HISA) and the Australasian College of Health Informatics (ACHI)
  • significant contributions to Australia’s digital health and health informatics sector.

The award acknowledges sustained leadership, commitment and impact over many years.

Professor Coiera has played a pivotal role in advancing digital health through his leadership in research, education and professional development. Among his many achievements was leading the Centre of Research Excellence in Digital Health’s work at AIHI to establish the Australasian Health Informatics Fellowship Program, in partnership with ACHI. Launched in 2017, the program was the first of its kind in Australia and helped prepare the next generation of health informatics leaders.

To receive a AIDH Life Membership Award is deeply humbling. I am truly grateful to the Institute, to the AIDH Board and to the many colleagues and friends who have shared this journey with me. Working in digital health is a privilege, especially when the times are as interesting as they are now.

Professor Coiera has helped shape the growth of health informatics and digital health in Australia, spanning:

  • clinical decision support
  • communication systems
  • artificial intelligence
  • the development of safer and more effective healthcare systems.

He is also Founder and Lead of the Australian Alliance for AI in Healthcare.

The Life Membership Award recognises Professor Coiera’s enduring contribution to the profession and his lasting impact on the advancement of digital health across Australia.
