Transformative Teaching via the ‘Why’ and the ‘How’ of Learning

28 September 2017

10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Building C5A, Room 435, 12 Second Way

Students are engaged and transformed by not just the ‘what‘ of learning, students need to be equipped and empowered with the ‘why‘ and the ‘how‘ of learning.

Prashan Karunaratne, Adjunct Lecturer in the Faculty of Business & Economics will share insights of how he adopts Macquarie University’s Learning & Teaching Strategic Framework to create a transformative learning & teaching experience both in and out of the classroom.

MQ’s L&T strategic framework – ‘A Connected Learning Community’ will be broken down into practical parts that teachers can adopt to engage and transform their students by highlighting the ‘why‘ and the ‘how‘ of learning. Prashan will provide his own practical examples, and as a learning community, participants will share their practical insights with each other as well.

The workshop will also draw upon Prashan’s:

  • PhD research on Threshold Concepts, and practically bringing these transformative lenses into your learning community – Engaging and transforming students by highlighting the ‘why‘ of learning.
  • R.E.A.L. teaching framework; an acronym for a great practical scaffolding tool for your learning community – Engaging and transforming students by highlighting the ‘how‘ of learning.

You have to come to the workshop to find out what R.E.A.L. stands for! #everyonesaywow

This workshop will be counted towards TIP.
