SIMProtect – educating Australians about the risks of identity theft and fraud from unauthorised mobile phone porting scams

Date:
26 May 2021

Time:
5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Location
Macquarie University, Level 24, Angel Place, 123 Pitt Street

Last year, more than 20,000 Australians had their identities stolen by cyber-criminals. Some had their bank accounts emptied whilst others had large bank loans taken out in their names. Unauthorised porting of mobile numbers and so-called sim-swapping are common steps undertaken by cyber-criminals to bypass internet security protections like SMS two-factor authentication.

Join us to find out more about the SIMProtect project, a public awareness campaign to educate Australian consumers and businesses about these risks, how to better protect themselves, and how to regain control of their online identities/accounts if they fall victim to these crimes.
