Exhibition Opening of Peter Chapman: cover art

18 May 2018

6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Macquarie University Art Gallery – Level 1, Building E11A, 19 Eastern Road, Macquarie University, North Ryde

The Macquarie University Art Gallery (MUAG) offers regular, changing exhibition programs to engage audiences from all walks of life. We want to inspire you, stir you, induce you to the wonders of art and encourage your own critical thinking in articulating those ideas that bring us to a closer understanding of our identity, our society, our culture and our world view.

Our team of curators utilise an interdisciplinary framework to explore the intersections between art, science, history, philosophy, media, music and culture. MUAG produces exhibitions that contribute to our broader understanding of Australian art in relation to our contemporary society and our sociopolitical and cultural histories on an international scale.

Peter Chapman was one of Australia’s most successful and enduring illustrators and cover-art artists, his work characterised by strong colour-compositional values and developed narrative sensibility. His career spanned four decades, from the end of World War II well into the 1980s, a peak period in Australian pulp publishing. During that time Peter authored his own original lines of adventure comics, and illustrated a wide range of romance, crime, sports and war publications. Later he illustrated text books, works of natural history, encyclopedias and greeting cards.

To be opened on Friday 18 May at 6-8pm by Pat Grant, cartoonist, writer & author of the graphic novel Blue.
Curator: Peter Doyle, Associate Professor in Media.

A Curator’s talk by Associate Professor Peter Doyle is also being held on Friday 25 May from 1-2pm.

Refreshments will be served at both events. We hope you can join us.
