Gender Equity Week

5 March 2018 - 9 March 2018

Macquarie’s first Gender Equity Week is taking place from Monday 5 – Friday 9 March.

An exciting program of events is planned including a TED-style symposium featuring some of Macquarie’s outstanding women whose work is truly changing the world; a photographic exhibition showcasing the ‘hidden figures’ of STEMM; a lecture presented by Professor Cordelia Fine on the topic of ‘Testosterone Rex’; and a social entrepreneurship forum with women who are thought leaders, game changers and rule breakers.

All staff are also invited to attend a Gender Equity Summit where progress to date on the Workplace Gender Equity Strategy, and plans and ideas for 2018 will be discussed.

Event highlights

All staff are invited to attend the Macquarie Women Changing the World Symposium on Monday 5 March. The Vice-Chancellor will launch Gender Equity Week at the event and 10 outstanding women will each outline their world-changing work in a short, TED-style presentation.

Our Workplace Gender Equity Strategy is a collaborative effort, involving staff across all areas of the University. The Gender Equity Summit on Tuesday 6 March is an opportunity to come together to review progress to date, and share ideas and future plans. All staff are welcome to attend.

The Hidden Figures of STEMM Photo Exhibition from 5 to 9 March celebrates the ground-breaking work of great women scientists. All staff are invited to attend the exhibition launch on Wednesday 7 March.

Our inaugural International Women’s Day Lecture on Thursday 8 March is not to be missed. Professor Cordelia Fine, an academic psychologist and writer based at the University of Melbourne will discuss her most recent research and discoveries in gender and her award-winning book ‘Testosterone Rex’.

The Women Who Change the World, A Big Friday of Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship event is a TEDx style panel discussion by Women Who Change the World. This event will take place on Friday 9 March and is open to the public. Register now to secure your seat!

Mason Lecture: A public colloquium on Science and Engineering 2018
