A safe space for women on campus
The Women's Room is a safe and friendly place for female-identifying students and staff to rest, reflect, socialise and study. Boys under 12 years old are also welcome when accompanied by a woman.
The Women's Room has wifi access, and there are couches and coffee tables so that you can relax and get comfortable.
There is a comprehensive women's library with both fiction and non-fiction with contraception and sanitary protection are available for free.
Information and support is provided on a range of topics including:
- sexual health and contraception;
- women's health;
- counselling options;
- drugs, alcohol, and/or gambling;
- domestic violence;
- sexual assault;
- adjusting to life at university;
- stress management.
If discussion of these topics make you feel uncomfortable or upset in any way feel free to contact Macquarie University's free counselling service.
The Women's Collective meets in the Women's Room during semester to discuss women's issues in the media, run events, or discuss challenges and concerns women have on campus. The Women's Collective will also be able to liaise directly with the Equity and Diversity Student Representatives on the Student Representative Committee (SRC), putting forward their suggestions and ideas for how to make life better and more fun for women on campus.
