Academic workforce and future planning

Macquarie University is committed to being a university that delivers transformative research and education.

As part of this mission, it is vital we continue to ensure our academic work is modern, world-class and continues to deliver profound benefits.

This mission has led to the creation of our Academic Blueprint – a forward-looking guide to how Macquarie University will shape and support its academic work and workforce for the future.

Released alongside the Vice-Chancellor’s Framing of Dynamic Futures, the Blueprint sets out the big questions we must ask to plan for the work of tomorrow’s university. How will employer demands and student interests evolve? Where will research funding be concentrated? What skills, disciplines and academic job families will we need to lead and deliver this work?

It is a statement of intent: to engage our people in ongoing dialogue, informed by data, debate and deliberation.

The Blueprint reflects broad support for these long-term considerations and underscores that building a strong academic workforce is not about short-term fixes, but about thoughtful and engaged planning – ensuring Macquarie continues to deliver excellence in education, research and community impact.
