LEAP - Macquarie Tutoring Program
2013 has seen the re-establishment of the Macquarie Tutoring Program at one of our local feeder schools - Marsden High School. This program is designed to support Year 12 students with their ongoing studies in order to maximise their success in the HSC examinations in October.
Students from Macquarie University volunteer each week to travel to the school and conduct intensive one-hour tutoring with individual students in a variety of academic subjects including Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Business Studies, Economics, Legal Studies and English.
Research shows that having effective role models through high school makes a difference in decision making processes for young people. In addition to curriculum based support, our tutors have been able to facilitate discussion around time management, offer study skills tips, and raise students' awareness of higher education options. This has had a positive effect for both the students and the tutors, many of whom have reported how much they have enjoyed the opportunity to help shape future success.
