Expertise: Psychology, Emotional Health, Online Treatment and Education Programs.

Date: 2013 - 2016

Many Australians with mental illness have difficulty accessing the treatment they need due to social or geographical isolation and stigma that is associated with mental illness. We worked with the Australian Government to establish MindSpot, the world's first free online and telephone mental health clinic.

MindSpot treatment courses comprise a mix of educational and practical exercises delivered via the internet. Combined with regular telephone contact with trained therapists, MindSpot allows Australians to get help in a discreet, effective way.

With a world class team comprising over 28 trained therapists, psychologists and health professionals, 1000+ patients and an innovative online treatment program, MindSpot is a ground breaking service that is improving the lives of thousands of Australians.

Macquarie University Expertise

MindSpot was founded on the research excellence of Macquarie University's Department of Psychology which is home to a number of world class research centres including The Macquarie University Centre for Emotional Health (CEH), led by Professor Jennie Hudson. Pioneering programs from the CEH such as the eCentreClinic laid the groundwork for MindSpot and its innovative online treatment courses.

Our Expertise

Working together with Associate Professor Nick Titov, MindSpot was established over a 6 month period. From tender writing to project co-ordination and financial management, we brought together 6 business functions and multiple stakeholders across government, university and health organisations to roll out this unique service.

The Kids and Traffic mission is to achieve improvements in young children's safety in the short term and develop safe community attitudes to road use in the long term by:

  • Increasing awareness of the need for road safety education for children and their families.
  • Fostering developmentally, socially and culturally appropriate practices for the delivery of road safety education
  • Ensuring that young children are given consistent road safety messages by both early childhood educators and families.

Building capacity in Bangladesh

Bangladesh Emblem

Project Size: Approx $280,000

Expertise: International Law (Centre for Environmental Law, Faculty of Arts))

Date: 4-22 February, 2013

Bangladesh has encountered challenges during regional and multilateral trade negotiations due to the country's lack of capacity to develop and implement effective policies for sustainable trade, environmental protection, and economic development. We worked with key government officials, focusing on knowledge transfer, skills training, and academic knowledge in the areas of international law, international trade law and international environmental law.

AccessMQ together with Macquarie University Centre for International and Environmental Law organised a training program on 'Capacity Building for Trade, Environment and Sustainable Development in Bangladesh' for 25 senior Government Officials of Bangladesh under Australian Leadership Award Fellowship (ALA) Program of Round-12 held on 4-22 February, 2013. Through AccessMQ, Dr Shawkat Alam lead this AusAID funded program with the aim to build the capacity of leaders and professionals in trade, environment and development in Bangladesh. The program aimed to support a comprehensive and continuing agenda for building institutional capacity of the Bangladesh Government, focusing on the enhancement of the three dimensions of capacity building: sustainable economic, social and political growth.

"I would like to express my sincere thanks to your organisation for arranging such an interactive and participatory training program for Bangladesh Officials that have had immense contributions to achieving our Millennium Development Goals" - High Commissioner for the People's Republic of Bangladesh
