About these microcredentials
Microcredentials are a short, flexible and affordable way to update your skills in targeted areas. The Learning technologies in practice study unit offers teachers and school leaders an opportunity to gain advanced knowledge in a wide range of digital learning technologies.
The unit consists of ten modules. Participants may register for multiple modules, or only one. By completing all ten modules of Learning technologies in practice, you may also earn full credit towards EDCN865, one of the twelve units in the Master of Education degree.
Each module is a NESA registered course that contributes to 15 hours of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Registered PD addressing 2.6.2, 3.4.2, 6.2.2, 6.3.2 and 7.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
Technological advances are rapid and widespread—so how can teachers use these tools to optimise learning?
The modules below delve into the research foundations of technology-enhanced learning so that practicing educators can adopt evidence-based approaches to incorporating technology into the classroom.
Modules will become available for study every week, starting 12/08/19. Each module will be open for a three week period. Assessments are in written form, and are submitted online.
Each module requires:
- core background reading
- a one-hour webinar (recording available)
- a discussion forum contribution demonstrating critical reflection on concepts from the module (worth 50% of module marks)
- an ePortfolio post showcasing your ability to apply the module’s learnings (worth 50% of module marks)

Technology affordances and multimedia learning effects
Develop your approach to technology-enhanced learning when you delve into the key concepts of technology affordances and multimedia learning effects, guided by recent research and examples of effective practice.

Representing and sharing content using technology
Develop and apply approaches to effectively representing and sharing content using technology, taking into account the different requirements of subject areas, assessment, and the broader shift towards open education.

Associate Professor Matt Bower is an award-winning expert in educational technology research and innovation. He is internationally recognised for his work investigating how tools such as augmented reality, Web 2.0, virtual worlds and social networking can be used to support cognitive development and collaborative learning.
Costs associated with this microcredential are as follows:
Domestic students: $300 + GST per module
International students: $450 per module
Group discounts: 10% discount applies when registration for one module is purchased for 5 or more individuals.
Individual discounts: 10% discount applies when three or modules are purchased in one transaction.
Only one discount applies per transaction.
Register by 05/08/2019 to undertake the whole study unit. For individual modules, register at least five days before the module’s commencement date.
