Liza-Mare Syron is a descendent of the Birripi people of the mid-north coast NSW and currently the Indigenous Research Fellow at the Department of Media, Music, Communication and Cultural Studies at Macquarie University.
Liza-Mare is published in the areas of actor training; Indigenous theatre practice; inter-cultural performance; theatre and community development; and arts in the community. Her publications include; 'The Challenges of Benevolence: the role of the Indigenous Actor' (2005), 'The Bennelong Complex' (2008), and Protocols of Engagement: Community Cultural Development' Encounters an Urban Aboriginal Experience' (2009).
Liza-Mare is a founding member of Moogahlin Performing Arts, a Sydney based Aboriginal company, and a Board member of Performing Lines Australia and Performance Space. Liza-Mare also sits on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander advisory panel for the City of Sydney. Other committee representations include: National Indigenous Publishing Working Party-REALBLAK 2011/2014, NSW Aboriginal Dance Symposium Steering Committee 2011, Beyond Cultural Futures Summit Steering Committee 2011, and the Aboriginal Advisory Group for Sydney Festival 2011.
