Enhancing Student Learning - Teaching Quality Indicators Project

Macquarie University committed to involvement with Stage 2 (Jul 2007 - Dec 2008) of the Australian Learning and Teaching Council's Teaching Quality Indicators (TQI) project to be at the forefront of developments relating to quality in learning and teaching. The purpose of this national project, involving eight universities, was to reward and recognise quality teaching in higher education through systematic implementation of indicators and metrics on teaching and teacher effectiveness. The aim was to actively engage with the issue of recognising and rewarding quality teaching and teachers, and to enhance the student learning experience.

Whilst Stage 2 of the project was completed at the end of 2008, the work stemming from the project at Macquarie University will continue through 2009 where there will be a focus on the development of tools to enhance teaching and scholarship. The aim is to build capability, engage the wider community, enhance the quality of student learning and utilise quality tools and indicators whilst embracing a performance culture of learning and teaching.

The work will continue to be led by Professor Judyth Sachs, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Provost) with input and expertise from a representative Steering Group.
