Project Details
The new Global Headquarters for Cochlear will be located on University Avenue and set in picturesque bushland setting. Cochlear will be aggregating their research and development, testing, clean room manufacture, wharehouse and distribution into one building of 26,000 m2 gross floor area of campus style accommodation.
Cochlear locating to the University campus is the foundation of the University's Centre of Excellence for Hearing and Audiology.
The Cochlear Head Office will be the only integrated research – manufacture-distribution facility in Australia. Cochlear at Macquarie will manufacture all Cochlear products and export around the world. It is estimated that at full production 5000 cochlear implants will be produced each week.
Cochlear's current facilities have been modified over time, and the business has grown to the current position where major works are required for Cochlear to remain efficient and productive.
Cochlear are acting as development managers with the University/ OMP finalising negotiations on the Development Agreement and Project Application to allow construction to commence in January 2009. Macquarie University Property Inverstment Trust (MUPIT) (a wholly owned subsidairy of the University) will purchase the building at Practical Completion and the OMP will fulfil a design verification and owners representative role during construction. The first stage capital value of $130 million includes an integrated fit out with a total of four stages proposed. The first stage will be completed by mid 2010.
