Doctor of Physiotherapy Graduation and the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences 2015 Prizes and Awards Celebration
The first class of 46 Doctor of Physiotherapy students from the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences graduated on 22 September 2015.
Professor Pamela Duncan gave a moving Occasional Address challenging graduates to have the courage to lead, the courage to learn and the courage to care. She spoke about the new major challenges to healthcare, including chronic illness. She told of her family’s personal experience with the health care system, describing the difference that caring and unselfish attention made to her family’s outcome.
Bridget Dean, the graduate speaker, spoke of the physio family and thanked Professor Cath Dean for leading the journey and Angela Stark for being a second mother. She also thanked her family and fellow students. Brigit told her fellow graduates that when you don’t know your limitations, anything is possible and finished with the encouraging words “Don’t hold back, just fly”.
The graduates are already using their skills working in a variety of areas including sports, orthopaedics, brain injury and aged care in both private practices and hospitals.
The graduation ceremony was followed by a prize giving ceremony.
