Department of Biomedical Sciences
The Department of Biomedical Sciences is committed to improving patient health through world-class fundamental and translational medical research.
As part of Macquarie's Academic Health Sciences Centre, our team of researchers, includes NHMRC and ARC Research Fellows. They teach and conduct research in seven core disciplines including:
- biomedical engineering
- cancer biology
- pharmacology, and
Our research integrates genetic and proteomic analyses with unique cell and animal models and computer technology to explore the molecular mechanisms of disease pathogenesis and to advance patient wellbeing.
Our higher degree research students are actively engaged in priority research areas and benefit from a strong culture of innovation and collaboration.
In addition, our research academics' close affiliation with Macquarie University Hospital facilitates the rapid translation of our multidisciplinary research into new diagnostic and therapeutic tools.
