The Department provides cutting-edge, evidence-based, hands-on engagement in research and practice, making it a premier institution in the field.
In terms of practice, it runs the Macquarie University Cognition Clinic for Reading, which provides research-based assessments and intervention for children with reading and spelling difficulties, and professional development for teachers and clinicians supporting children with poor reading and spelling.
In terms of research, students and academics have access to state-of-the art laboratories that house rare equipment exclusive to Macquarie University. This has helped shape an impressive record of achievement including a Dean’s Citation for Innovation in Learning and Teaching, multiple engagements with media and countless publications.
We have multiple site visits throughout the year where tours, workshops, work experience, and collaborations between researchers take place.
