Problem solved

The hard work of two Macquarie student teams was recognised at a recent event with awards presented by the Hon Parliament Secretary Tanya Davies for their win at Univative Sydney 2015.

Univative Sydney is an inter-university, interdisciplinary and intercultural competition in which student teams from five universities compete to develop solutions to genuine problems posed by professional organisations.

“The competition is very unique as teams need to be formed by students from different disciplines, with a reasonable local and international student mix,” said Career Development Consultant, Serene Lin-Stephens.

The teams took victory over fellow competitors from UNSW, UTS, UOW and the University of Sydney to solve business problems posed by the Australian National Maritime Museum and Dentsu Aegis Network.

The Dentsu Aegis Network tasked competing teams with creating a comprehensive marketing strategy across owned, earned and paid media for the Disney XD channel. The Macquarie team was successful for their unique idea of combining 3D ground artwork with augmented reality technology, which was presented to the judges in a sharp, creative and flawless way.

Similarly, the Macquarie team won the Australian National Maritime Museum over in their project to attract a new audience of 18-25 year olds to the museum with a simple and cost-effective strategy. The students cleverly tied new concepts into the museum’s theme and marketing taglines and provided a catchy and budget-detailed plan via an engaging presentation.

“Our winning students were not only acknowledged with certificates but also won special network opportunities with leaders of prestigious organisations, and received internship opportunities,” said Serene.

Hard working students aside, several Macquarie staff coached our teams to rise to the challenge.

“Tania Currie, Tyree Barnett, Vicki George, Justine McKenna, Shayaan Malik, as well as a number of previous student participants, are congratulated for their support in the lead up to the competition,” said Serene.
