Scholarly connections

More than 170 new students were recently welcomed into our Merit Scholars Program with a congratulatory event celebrating their achievements. The Program sees our most promising students exposed to opportunities designed to leverage their potential.

“This year the Merit Scholars Program has experienced a significant increase in reputation among students and staff alike,” said Program Coordinator Georgia Scapens. “Participation in all our major offerings has more than doubled since 2014.”

Georgia explains the Merit Scholars Program was expanded to include a wider range of opportunities to allow for a greater number of students from all faculties.

“In the past year, the reputation of the Merit Scholars Program has grown in a very positive way, and students now understand just how many opportunities are within reach when they become a Merit Scholar,” said Georgia.

In 2015, the Merit Scholars Program will fund 50 students to work alongside active Macquarie researchers, and 110 will receive mentoring from an academic in their field of study.

“These strong connections are helping bridge the gap between our high achieving students and our research community,” said Georgia.
