An executive welcome

Following the successful implementation of Macquarie’s new onboarding process, Human Resources have continued to enhance the Macquarie induction experience with the recent introduction of regular welcome morning teas with the Vice-Chancellor and the University’s Executive group.

Held earlier this month, the first morning tea introduced more than 50 new-starters to the Macquarie community, which completes the implementation of the Human Resources’ revised induction process.

“The driver behind this initiative is feedback from staff,” said Margo Droulers, Head of HR Client Services. “Many told us they did not know who the leaders of the University are, and did not get many opportunities to meet a wider cross section of the University after they had started.”

In an effort to build greater staff engagement with the University and its goals, Margo says the introduction of the morning teas provide an excellent opportunity to address these needs and allow new staff to connect and quickly build connections across campus.

“The initiative provides staff with a greater sense of the University being led by a strong team,” said Margo. “It’s also an opportunity for new staff to learn where we’ve come from and where the University is heading.”

In his welcome to the Macquarie family, Vice-Chancellor Professor S Bruce Dowton shared the University’s story and spoke of our commitment to be a university of service and engagement, and reflected on his personal introduction to Macquarie.

“When I started I was immediately struck by the friendliness of the University community,” he said. “I quickly discovered how different Macquarie is from every other university which I’ve worked or moved through, and the most remarkable difference here is the lack of boundaries between parts of the organisation, and the friendliness of the way in which people greet each other.”

Following the Vice-Chancellor’s address, members of the Executive group had the opportunity to introduce themselves and their respective areas of the University. The formal proceedings followed with a chance for guests to informally chat with the Executive and meet fellow new staff from across campus.
