An award-winning break

Congratulations to the following staff on their prestigious achievements:

Australia Day honours for Macquarie professors
Professor John Croucher AM, Professor Rosalind Croucher AM and Emeritus Professor Farhat Yusuf AM were recognised for their contribution to education and to their disciplines with Order of Australia (AM) awards.

Professor John Croucher received the award for significant services to mathematical science in the field of statistics, as an academic, author and mentor, and to professional organisations.

Professor Rosalind Croucher AM was a recipient of the award for significant service to the law as an academic, to legal reform and education, to professional development, and to the arts.

Emeritus Professor Farhat Yusuf AM was recognised for significant service to tertiary education as a specialist demographer, and to professional organisations in Australia and overseas.

From the broader Macquarie community, Adjunct Professor Jim Patrick of Cochlear Ltd also received an Order of Australia (AM), for distinguished service to science through the development of cochlear implant technology, to biomedical research and engineering innovation, and to education and professional associations.

Professor Patrick McNeil, Executive Dean, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences
Professor McNeil was recognised for his work at the University of New South Wales with an Award for Programs that Enhance Learning (Innovation in Curricula, Learning and Teaching) by the Office for Learning and Teaching. The Award was in recognition of his contribution to UNSW Medicine’s learning and teaching support programs and services.

As a result of these learning and teaching innovations, UNSW Medicine students reported that they feel their university experience is better developing their skills in communication, teamwork, critical analysis of information, problem solving and ethical practice.

Professor Gillings and Associate Professor Brooks received Unijobs Lecturer of the Year Awards for their efforts to better the lives of their students, and to better their campus community. Gillings and Brooks were two of the 15 who received the award from 65,000 votes nationally.
