Paying kindness forward

Cupcakes, flowers, big smiles and well wishes were spread across campus last week, all with the aim of brightening up someone’s day.

One Act, an initiative of the Sustainability team, is a response to an inspiring new global trend promoting random small acts of kindness. Launched with help from Campus Experience staff, the team paid visits to staff across campus with gifts, good will and a message to pay it forward.

“We’re getting behind the kindness revolution at Macquarie,” said Sustainability Officer Belinda Bean. “One Act encourages and promotes community spirit and also raises awareness of Sustainability on campus.”

“You can be as creative as you like with your ideas,” said Belinda. “You could pay for someone’s coffee, leave a flower on a colleague’s desk or bake a cake and leave it in your office kitchen for others to enjoy. You can even remain anonymous.”

A One Act card has also been created to accompany acts of kindness and staff are encouraged to pass the card on too if they choose to participate.

“If you’ve experienced One Act of kindness we’d love you to share your story on Facebook or Twitter using the #mqOneAct hash tag” said Belinda.
