New York, New York: first Jubilee alumni reception in the big apple

Vice-Chancellor Professor S Bruce Dowton recently hosted US-based graduates at a reception in New York to celebrate the University’s 50th anniversary.

The reception was the first time the University has hosted a reception in New York and was met with an enthusiastic response from alumni.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Corporate Engagement & Advancement), Professor David Wilkinson was the Master of Ceremonies at the event which showcased the University’s recent achievements and updated alumni about key developments including the launch of the new Campus Masterplan. A key focus of the reception was to give alumni the opportunity to build their networks and deepen their ongoing relationship with the University.

Among the speakers was Senior Trade Commissioner of Austrade, Mr Richard Leather. As a 1991 Bachelor of Economics graduate, Mr Leather spoke about his time at Macquarie and his connections with US alumni community.

Alumnus Trent Vichie spoke about his time as a student at Macquarie, and shared his story of the challenges and successes of establishing an enterprise in the USA during the Global Financial Crisis. Mr Vichie, a Co-Founder and Senior Managing Director of Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners, received a Master of Economics in 1996.

Throughout its jubilee year, Macquarie will endeavour to engage with its 150,000 strong alumni community; a community that’s spread across 140 countries with alumni who make an impact in many spheres of endeavour. Similar alumni events are set to take place later in this year in London, Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai.
