Associate Professor Shane Hearn will be leaving the University at the end of May to take up a more senior post as Dean of Indigenous Research and Education Strategy at the University of Adelaide. In his time here Shane has taken a leadership role in Indigenous strategy as we work towards a reconciliation action plan. During his tenure the number of Indigenous students has risen 30 per cent and now stands at 309.
I also regretfully announce the departure of Jake Garman at the end of April for another post in his home town of Perth. Jake was the inaugural director of MUIC which has been one of our great success stories in recent years. The planning and set up of MUIC was achieved in just over a year, hitting every deadline. It is already performing far ahead of planned levels of activity and is making a significant contribution to the rebuilding of our international market as well as adding new opportunities for domestic students.
I’d like to thank Shane and Jake on their enormous contribution to the University and we wish them well for the future.
Professor John Simons
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic)
